Willem de Beer:

Headshot Willem de Beer ESGWillem has 19 years’ experience in mining induced seismicity and geophysics. He earned his Ph.D. in High Energy Theoretical Physics from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. From 1997 to 2001 he worked at ISS International in South Africa doing research and development in rockburst prediction, and managed routine processing and analysis services. From 2001 to 2004 he was co-owner of iGeo Ltd, a New Zealand based geophysics and monitoring consultancy, which was sold to Golder Associates in 2004. Willem spent the next 12 years at Golder, first as a Principal Geophysicist, then as an Associate and a Principal. He has worked for Golder in New Zealand, managing the Geophysics and Monitoring team, and in Canada, providing senior technical support to rock mechanics, designing and reviewing monitoring systems, and directing consulting projects. He has conducted geophysical surveys and microseismic monitoring system design, installation and management in North and South America, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Australia and South Africa. He has spent significant time on the seismic and geotechnical monitoring of block caves.
